Class Description: Join us at Fifth Season Gardening Co Asheville to discover the secrets of growing delicious gourmet mushrooms right in your own home! Whether you’re a curious beginner, have some know-how, or simply want to gift your best friends and family an unforgettable group experience, this workshop is perfect for those interested in the world of mushroom cultivation.

Guided by Jesse and Sweet Dee of Resting Point Farms, you’ll practice the following hands-on techniques:

  • selecting the right mushroom spawn for your tastebuds
  • inoculating grain spawn with liquid culture
  • creating the perfect growing environment
  • identifying, harvesting, and safe storage of mushrooms
  • quick tips for unforgettable mushroom-based recipes

Located 10 minutes from downtown Asheville, NC, Fifth Season Gardening Co. provides the ideal setting. Arrive early to grab a hot tea or cold beer at the centerpiece bar, then take a few steps to meet us in the classroom! You’ll feel right at home surrounded by mushroom enthusiasts, thousands of plants, and kind people. Materials are included, but feel free to bring a budget for extra materials. After the workshop, the knowledgeable educators and garden store staff can guide you through the store to find everything you need to customize your own indoor mushroom growing environment.

Who is this class designed for? This class is ideal for all kinds of people! Although there will be stones and tree roots, the walk will not be strenuous. Coupons available to Senior Citizens, Veterans, and various populations. If you want to identify Poison Ivy, or understand which mushrooms may be edible, this is the class for you!

Notes: Two session time slots are available. Both sessions are at the beginner-intermediate level, and similar in structure. They are designed to give more people a chance to learn the basics (rather than advance student acuity from beginner to intermediate over a course of 2 days). If you would like a progressive track for your continued learning, you can sign up for our intermediate classes, or reach out to request small group or individual classes.

Classes: Purpose & Details

Our classes cover many topics related to gardening, small farming, and mushrooms. You will learn, gain hands-on experience, and receive the best materials offered to begin growing your own mushrooms at your home, homestead, or small farm. Our classes are seasonally appropriate, for instance, our ‘Earthen Inoculation & Garden Bed Preparation’ class is held in Summer only, to ensure optimal temperature and moisture conditions for the fungal spawn’s full and healthy life cycle, and therefore, your practical success.

To get the most out of your educational experience, we highly suggest all students purchase the corresponding class materials, which will be utilized in the demo/workshop portion of the class.
